We are delighted to announce that South Wales Snooker have sponsored Ebbw Vale based Dainton Barrass' entry for the World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) British Open in January 2023.

Dainton is ranked world number 12 in the WDBS Category 8 (Deaf) and is currently number 6 in the Welsh U21s rankings.

As part of South Wales Snooker's commitment to raising awareness and providing sponsorship to minority groups of snooker players in South Wales, this is the second sponsorship opportunity provided in a matter of weeks following confirmation of tournament sponsorship for current Welsh women's number one Laura Evans

Dainton and his family were invited to an exhibition with Matthew Stevens at Penygraig Labour Club on Saturday November 19th and enjoyed a superb day including witnessing an incredible 147 from Matthew.

The youngster wowed onlookers with a superb performance himself and was unlucky to lose as an unfortunate foul halted a fantastic break and let Matthew in to claim victory.

Andrew Ferguson, co-founder of South Wales Snooker, said 'Saturday was such an important day for raising awareness of the WDSA and the struggles that Dainton and other players in minority groups have regarding support and funding for competitions. One onlooker even dug into his own pocket and gave a substantial donation towards Dainton's next couple of tournament entries so it goes to show how important it is to keep talking about it, sharing information and providing opportunities where possible.'
